Sources, per the chair: the meeting transcript, chair notes, and the GSR Monthly Reports responses submitted October 1-17. Last initials only, in keeping with PIR’s anonymity traditions. Chair: Karyn S.
In the room
Karyn S called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM Eastern with a moment of silence and the short (“wee”) version of the Serenity Prayer. Attending: Karyn S (chair), Michele F (Thursday Women Beyond Sobriety), Mike B (Sunday Big Book Study), Sam K (Wednesday UK/Europe), Ben (Saturday Morning Live, Wednesday Queer in Recovery), Jaime I (Thursday Love, Sex and Relationships), Alan H (Family of Origin), Anne R (PR Committee, London), Evan K (San Diego In Person), Rick B (Monday Entheon), Christopher (Literature Committee and Tech), Paula G (Sunday Integration), Hugh (Breathe), Andria (Friday 11th Step Mysticism, Thursday Liminal Lounge).
Tradition 10
Karyn S read the tradition in full: individual members hold opinions on outside issues, but PIR as an organization has no opinion on them. The conversation that followed:
- Karyn S: society and the psychedelic sphere hold divided opinions, including on legalization. She returns to primary purpose: recovery, and service to people in active addiction and to the community.
- Mike B: the “no outside issues” language is a misnomer and could be struck; what counts as an outside issue?
- Jaime I: politics.
- Karyn S: an outside issue is anything that divides us or takes us away from our primary purpose.
- Anne R: legalizing or decriminalizing psilocybin is tempting to take up even when members agree - a UK organization even approached the fellowship about collaborating. Outside issues are everything that is not primary purpose, even when it is on the same path.
- Ben: the fellowship’s neutrality keeps it from being discredited. Karyn S called it a very good point.
Minutes approved
Motion by Jaime I, seconded by Alan H; the September minutes were approved - all present raised their hands, per the chair’s notes.
Old business
- Safety: continued safety talk was mentioned briefly only.
- QR code: the PayPal QR code is now on the 7th Tradition page of the website - a chair can share the screen to it during the 7th Tradition break.
- Venmo: nothing is being done with Venmo; a small discussion.
- New Board, voted in: the transition comes in January. Rick B, President. Aili T (Minnesota), Treasurer. David K, representing Other Paths of Recovery. Jaime I, Member at Large representing the fellowship. Todd Y, representing the founding members. Anne R and Karyn S remain on the Board to fulfill their terms. The board has expanded.
Group reports, in brief
Karyn S read from the written reports; no groups brought items to the floor. The full reports live in their own entry. Two things rose above the reports:
- Rick B shared that he fumbles over what to announce at his meeting, while some GSRs post a ready-made text in the chat. Karyn S noted Paula G and Ben do this well and will try to put together a copy/paste GSR announcement blurb in that format.
- Christopher described the PIR-aware help desk chatbot now pointing to crisis resources, routing to LitCom, GSR, PR or TechCom tickets, taking email at a help desk address, and offering a magic-link web form. Open roles: Discord moderation and a TechCom co-host facilitator.
Action items
- Karyn S: draft the copy/paste announcement blurb in the Paula G / Ben format; share the Amazon hyperlink for the book in the minutes (done in these minutes).
- Christopher: share links to the minutes hub and changelogs; accept the 2020 and 2021 minutes from Rick B.
- Rick B: send the 2020 and 2021 minutes by the WhatsApp back channel.
- Anne R: reach out to Alan H about interviewing for the podcast; push the photo gallery to the web on the evening of 10/18.
Adjournment
Next meeting: Saturday, November 21, 2026 at 12:00 PM Eastern. Motion to close by Alan H, seconded by Jaime I and Anne R. Karyn S closed with a moment of silence and the “we” version of the Serenity Prayer; the recording ends about 12:37 PM.
